Choosing Classes Empty Choosing Classes

Post by Glae Mon Nov 03, 2014 10:34 pm

So. Just wondering what classes everyone is thinking of being. Jac is looking at a dragonborn sorcerer, but I'm not sure what I want. I don't mind being any class in particular, but 5E doesn't require the specific roles as much as 4E.

I'm looking at a more utility caster (Druid of the Land maybe).. but just don't want to step on someone's toes if someone really wants to be something.

What classes are other people picking/considering?

I could go with either a Paladin, monk, or warlock. Whatever the group would need.

I could go with anything as well.  I usually like rogues, but I'm interested in mixing things up.  Basically I'm going to try to break the game.  Smile

Did we decide on edition yet? That will help me pick character, class, and background.

Hell yeah, this will be my first 5e game. I've got a lot of reading to do.

I'm also fairly new to 5e, I played a few encounters sessions but that's about it lol so we will have to just go with it. I'm thinking next Tuesday we do our first meetup, maybe not to play but do some character creation and meet each other. Does that work?

I need to iron out some back story with everyone individually before we can start playing so please pm me when you have a basic character concept. You can be anything you want barring that it's not super crazy, like a space king with ray guns lol. But if you want to be nobility, a specialized thief that ranks fairly high in the theives guild, or a poor minstrel all are acceptable I just have to develop some of your guys stuff before I drop you into the world. Also how does everyone feel about recording our sessions?

I'd also like to stay away from mimicking drunks and dragons as much as possible

Cool, I don't plan on being anyone special anyway. Maybe a lone woodsman, or someone just interested in magic and learned a few low spells (since we are all starting at lvl 1 anyway).

As for recording, I sure don't mind, but I've only got my crappy built-in mic on my laptop, so have fun with that, haha.

Mic is just fine, we will probably use roll20 as well so I can display things

I don't care if we do recordings. Google hangouts has a feature that's basically" export to YouTube" IIRC. Though I'd prefer not trying to be a 1:1 copy of drunks and dragons, if we're using Google Hangouts its like 1 button to save the session. It almost becomes why not record?

I don't have a preference on tabletop of choice. Roll20 works fine for doing shared digital rolls, and the occasionally shared document or secret note.

I've done a few (<10) games of 5E and it works really well with the narrative style instead of a grid. Which actually works way better for recordings and internet play anyway.

I'm fine with doing a session 0 game to nail down characters and meet each other. There's also a bit of flexibility with choosing skills in 5E, if you take a skill a second it works as a wild card, so its pretty nice for a full party. You can be like "oh, no one can pick locks? Uh I guess my Noble Wizard will."

My character I think I've locked in as Druid of the Land (thats the spellcaster, not.the shapeshifter) with the Outlander background. So he's more like a mountain man fur trapper than a tree hugging druid. Healing, support, control.

i have little to no experience running a game over the internet so any recommendations are welcome as to what software we use. as far as being a DM im not one of those "ive been playing 3 games a week for the past 15 years" types. Ive run several games that have ended up fizziling out early on due to peoples schedule and i have run a few sessions of DnD encouters 5e. im just here to have fun and hopefully run an engaging game for everyone involved, so as long as everyone is ok with that then we should be good to go =D

Also i have one favor to ask, if one person would voulnteer to be nobility that would help the start of the campaign well. I can write around it if no one wants to take that mantle but it would be cool if someone did.
